Chris Ategeka
Chris Ategeka is a Ugandan-born American engineer, entrepreneur, author, and impact investor whose work sits at the intersection of technology, human development, and social impact. He has founded and led organizations focused on global health, data and artificial intelligence, entrepreneurship, and the unintended consequences of technology. Throughout his career, he has worked to ensure that innovation serves people and communities that are too often overlooked by traditional systems.
As a 2030STEM Champion, Chris is especially passionate about helping emerging professionals build confidence, navigate career transitions, expand their networks, and develop leadership rooted in both technical excellence and lived experience. He believes mentorship is not simply about offering answers, but helping the next generation recognize their strengths, advocate for themselves, and build careers in which they can thrive while creating opportunities for others.
Marianne Vermeer
Her work with executive teams and boards of directors has helped them understand their financial position and how to build strategy that both improves their financial standing and ensures strong organizational impact.
Marianne has also been a C-level executive in both for-profit and non-profit organizations, building capacity and momentum. These organizations are in sectors including social enterprises, global health, child development, higher education, health care, pharmaceutical research, and impact investing.
In addition to her professional work, Marianne has also served as a board member for several non-profit organizations, including Intrahealth International, the National Foundation for Ectodermal Dysplasias, Richmond Metro Habitat for Humanity, and the Richmond Venture Forum.
Crystal Rogers
Dr. Crystal Rogers is an Associate Professor in the Department of Anatomy, Physiology, and Cell Biology at the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Rogers leads a research program investigating the molecular mechanisms that regulate embryonic development and cell migration using avian and axolotl model systems. Her laboratory integrates developmental biology, genetics, and advanced imaging to uncover fundamental principles of vertebrate development.
A passionate mentor and educator, Dr. Rogers has trained and mentored dozens of undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral researchers, many of whom have gone on to graduate school, professional programs, and scientific leadership opportunities. She is committed to helping early-career scientists develop the skills, confidence, and professional networks needed to thrive in STEM. Her dedication to mentorship and inclusive excellence has been recognized through her appointments as both a UC Davis Chancellor's Fellow for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (2023) and a UC Davis Chancellor's Fellow (2024).
Through her research, scientific leadership, and mentorship, she is dedicated to strengthening the next generation of STEM leaders.
